Kay Lorraine Sharrard-Witter
Born:  21 July 1945 in Port Huron, MI
Died: 29 May 2021 in Port Huron, MI
PORT HURON, MI – Kay graduated from Port Huron High School in 1963. She attended Port Huron Junior College before transferring to Michigan State University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in early elementary education. She taught 36 years for the Port Huron Area School system with time at Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Crull, with her last 17 years at Harrison Elementary School. She was especially competent at teaching her first graders to read and focused on developing lifelong learners. She was a member of the Port Huron Education Association, Michigan Education Association, National Education Association, and the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel. Kay also taught Sunday school for several years at Trinity Lutheran.

Children were the focus of Kay’s attention, especially her three granddaughters. She cared for them daily in their preschool years as wells as before and after school during their education. She loved talking and texting daily with them when she couldn’t see them. Shopping for the three of them was a real joy for her. She made every holiday special with her cooking, baking, and gift giving. Decorating the house for each season or holiday always made her home very welcoming. Kay also loved her yard and deck that was always colorful with flowers. Birds, butterflies, and the animals in nature gave her comfort to watch in her yard.

Kay is survived by Fred, her loving husband of 52 years; daughter, Kristy (Craig) Snelgrove; son, Eric (Raechel) Witter; granddaughters Madison Snelgrove, Avery and Delaney Witter; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Barbara and Gary Dummitt; nephews Scott and Chuck Dummitt. Kay is also survived by special friends; Eric, Kim, Marissa, and Andrea Hartman, Sharon Bean, Linda Herbert, Pam Naplin; in-laws; Ted and Linda Kearns and Ruth Snelgrove.
