Another busy meeting this morning. Next Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. is the next meeting. We plan to finalize addresses (for now) so that labels can be made for some postcards to go out in the following week or so.
Sylvia Fogle Pattison has done some checking into getting pictures done of each person coming to the reunion. Not sure if this will be happening or not.
Sharon is looking into costs for the printing of 'hold the date' post cards/stamps/labels etc. for this first mailing.
We still have quite a few classmates we can't find:

Barb Lasher
Grove Lawrence
Gary Lewis
Judy Lunney
B.J. Meechan
Charles Towns
Steve VanBuskirk
Sharon Wedge
Richard VanHaaften
I (Wanda Pratt-Hunt) will post a better list soon. These are mostly additions from todays meeting. If you know of any of our classmates, please let us know on Facebook or our website: http://www.phhs1963.com/
The next meeting will be November 15, 2012 at 10:00 at Vantage Point.
10:00 AM Oct. 11, 2012
People are still checking the list to verify addresses, etc.

The next meeting will be October 25, 2012 at 10:00 at Vantage Point.

10:00 AM Sept. 27, 2012
Good meeting today. Lots of people are checking the old list to verify addresses, etc. Lots of people no longer have land phones so their numbers are disconnected. That fact is causing a problem. There is no way to validate those addresses

We made HUGE list of people we can't find at all. I (Wanda) will put that on (facebook) soon so if anyone knows addresses, phone numbers, or clues how to find people, please let us know. I (Wanda) am tryng to keep the computer files up to date and have lots o corrections and changes to get done before the next meeting.

Sharon has gotten prices for some postcards that we plan to mail in November as an early reminder of the reunion next July 27. Some of the places wil put the addresses on them as they are printed so we need to make sure we have the addresses all figured out and updated before the. Then the printer gets a disc with the excel spreadsheet on it and they print form that.

The next meeting will be October 11, 2012 at 10:00 at Vantage Point.

10:00 AM Sept. 13, 2012Apologies - no notes available.

10:00 AM August 30, 2012Apologies - no notes available.

10:00 AM August 16, 2012Apologies - no notes available.

11:20 AM August 02, 2012 — Thank you to Jan Harris-Bond for providing the following notes taken during the last planning meeting.
It is possible that notes for 08/02/12 may be amended.
The meeting was called to order at 11:20 a.m. by Sharon Seibert-Whiting.
Attendees:  Sharon Seibert-Whiting, Sandy O'Neil-Koppelberger, Betty Working-Rowley, Linda Taylor-Smalldon, Carol Linert-Eastman, Linda Badgerow-Fretenborough, Dale and Judy Menery-Jurk, Colgan, Larry and Carol Atfield-Butler, Pam Fockler-Savalle, Marilyn Wirsing-Kuehn, Dorothy Newman-Smith, Carl Schoenberg, Ron and Wanda Hunt-Pratt, Sylvia Fogle-Pattison, Lynne MacPherson-Dear, Jeff and Kathy Hardy-Kellogg, Carol Schoenberg and Jan Harris Bond. (amend: add Pat and Judy Falk-Debell)
Location readdressed:
  1. Alexander's — Must have 300 reservation guarantee with cost of approximately $49.08 per person, including open bar, tax and gratuity.
  2. Black River Country Club — $38.18; immediately ruled out because of their divided room.
  3. McMorran Place — $29.50 per person. No tax, open bar, set up and clean up. There are no tax charges because McMorran is a non-profit facility. Everything has been remodeled, including ceiling, dance floor and air-conditioning unit. Chef Shell's would cater and the price includes a 4-hour open bar.
  4. Port Huron country Club — Eliminated due to size restrictions.
  5. Fore Lakes — Eliminated as all Saturdays have been booked, and it was too costly.
  6. The Elk's — Eliminated as it wouldn't accommodate our size.
There was a lengthy discussion regarding all locations and classmate objections to McMorran based on the informal atmosphere, former poor quality of food, air conditioning problems and parking charges. Carl Schoenberg and Sharon Whiting advised that McMorran is under new management and the Junior Arena recently been remodeled. The ceiling has been painted black to hide unsightly pipes, new lighting added, Chef Shell's would do the catering, the air conditioning problems have been rectified, and there is an excellent sound system.
Caryl Atfield Butler and Pam Fockler Savalle volunteered to form a McMorran decorating Committee. If you are interested in helping, please contact Caryl or Pam.
We had a class of 652 with 111 reported deceased so we are anticipating a larger than normal attendance at our 50th class reunion per local and out-of-state email and personal feedback. Also, being graduates of Port Huron High School, it was felt by many that it would be nice to celebrate this reunion in the City of Port Huron. Additionally, Carl Schoenberg will personally refund the ticket price of any class member dissatisfied with McMorran.
Kathy Kellogg made the motion to have our class reunion at McMorran. The motion was seconded by Carol Eastman and unanimously approved.
Ideas for Extended reunion:
  1. Huron Lady — Motion by Betty Working Rowley, seconded by Kathy Hardy Kellogg. Motion carried. Reservations can be for 1:00 or 3:00, $16 adults, $15 seniors. We could have a guaranteed seating scheduled reservation. Rental price for our group would be divided out to about same cost per person with 100 person capacity. Arrangements could be made to meet at the Port Huron Yacht Club after the Huron Lady trip for takeout pizza or possibly dinner. Options will be checked out and reported back at our next meeting.
  2. Golf Outing — information to follow.
  3. Trolley Rides — Information provided by Jan Harris Bond. Ten cents per person, runs seven days a week from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. on the hour. There are three different trolleys which seat approximately 25 people. By calling in May, it is possible that we may be able to schedule a trolley exclusively for our group. Pick-up is in front of the former HAC at 331 Huron. Jan will follow up to see if they have a hydraulic lift on the trolleys.
  4. Tour McMorran Tower, Port Huron High School, Light House — A Port Huron High School tour will be checked out by Carol Linert Eastman and possibly having the Port Huron High School Band marching in at our class reunion. Wanda Hunt Pratt also suggested a tour of the Ice Museum be included in the extended reunion activities available.
  5. Visit the "Deck Dance" at Pine Grove Park — Bring your own chairs. Information to follow.
  6. Friday Night Gathering — at the McMorran Lounge was suggested and discussed.
  7. Possible Tiger Game — Dale Jurk suggested a possible trip to a Tiger Game and will check out game schedules, costs, etc.
  8. Parade — Sharon Seibert Whiting advised that Rick Herring has suggested a possible parade participation of the class of 1963.
It was requested that information of things to do in Port Huron be put in writing with costs. When paying for your McMorran tickets, activity items could then be checked and prepaid at the same time.
Name tags or buttons, booklets, and a bag of goodies as keepsakes were discussed. Suggestions are welcome from everybody. Sandy O'Neil Koppelberger will check out name tag availability and printing prices at Sir Speedy.
It was requested that Sandy O'Neil Koppelberger's board of deceased class members be updated with names, pictures and obituaries. A rolling CD of those deceased classmates could also be set up at McMorran.
It was also requested that the entire list of classmates, alive and deceased, be revised and consolidated to two pages.
Entertainment:
Charlie Winters Band, one of our former classmates, will play one set at McMorran and Mike Mullens will DJ the remainder of the night.
Photography:
Class DVD and photographer, photo booth rental, classic car background display and table cameras - Pam Fockler Savalle will check out photo booth rental prices. Lynn MacPherson Dear will check out local photographers for pricing comparisons. Carl Schoenberg will obtain classic cars, including a '65 Chevy, for display and background photography. Sharon Seibert Whiting suggested we use table cameras as we did at the last reunion.
Class Information Update:
Class address sheets were distributed for address verification and updates by Sharon Seibert Whiting
Adjournment:
The meeting adjourned about 1:15 p.m., and our next planning session is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., August 23rd.

(Please join us on the 23rd, if at all possible. It's great seeing everyone. Make our 50th class reunion a night to remember! Jan Harris Bond)
1:30 PM July 28, 2012 I received a call from Sharon Seibert-Whiting just moments ago. She has had some discussions with the management of Alexander's Banquet Facility in Marysville. She came away with the fear that to reserve the entire facility would require that there be a guarantee of 300 guests. That would mean that if we do not meet the 300 minimum that the planning committee would be liable for the difference in receipts from classmates and the cost of the banquet rental. Therefore she is requesting that everyone who is interested provide feedback to a member of the planning group. Your response is needed before the next planning session, August 02, 11:00 AM held at Vantage Point in Port Huron.

Feedback can be given to:

Or any person you know attending the next committee meeting.

Your prompt response is needed!

Agenda: July 19, 2012 Planning (<-- Click here to view agenda)

The meeting had a great turnout. It appears many classmates share more then a great interest in making this reunion gathering something to remember.

There was a positive and engaging discussion regarding the selection of the reception site. Sharon had prepared a nice agenda that provided some of the factors that would ultimately effect the location selection location. A recap of the discussion would be that to hold the reunion during boat week would cause increase hotel costs and competition for rooms. The weekend for the dome reunion slits some classmates who might try to share time between both events. It was agreed that a unique weekend would result in the best participation. So therefore the weekend of July 27th was selected. Now choosing this weekend eliminated the new reception building in Goodells Park as the 4H Fair ends on that weekend. McMorran Place was eliminated based on several factors, including we have been there many times, it's too big and doesn't promote intermingling, atmosphere isn't elegant for 50th reunion. Fore Lakes did not have any Saturday nights available. The Marysville American Legion had available dates, possibly large enough, but limited in number of hours and no liquor provided. The Black River country Club provoked mixed experiences, and did not inspire individuals to fight for its selection. The Port Huron Golf Club could only accommodate 200 guests. Any larger number would require them to close their club bar. The Seaway Terminal although well received, had a laundry list of issues. First the cost of the building. Other issues included, chairs and tables provided could only accommodate 300 guests. We would have to supply linens, provide catering, a temporary liquor license, and liquor insurance. In the interest of our economic times, and wanting to draw the most classmates the costs and atmosphere of Alexander's got unanimous support. Now some might ask why an open bar. Well, once again economics won out. The reason, the cost difference between open bar, or pay per drink was less the $8.00. If you only bought two sodas, chances are you were going to spend more than that.

There was limited but well received discussion regarding entertainment. Mike Mullins had been approached and indicated that he would be glad to provide music. Also, we would approach one of our own and his band to play one set.

Thanks to Wanda Hunt-Pratt, several copies of the contact lists was provided. Copies were spilt up, and volunteers were to begin calling known phone numbers to confirm mailing addresses.

The next meeting is planned for August 2nd.
