Please feel welcome to attend...you and any quest are invited to attend all of the gatherings.

Thank you, Laura and Charlie for opening your cottage to our fellow classmates. It was great to see everyone. We had a call in guest, Ted Pesano. Just about everyone took a turn recalling the past and catching up on the present. Maybe this is a good sign for the reunion in August? Hope to see you there.

In the interest of not specifically identifying individuals in the photos, I will only post the names of individuals who came. If you have questions of who anyone is, simply drop me an email and I will identify specifically each person in a photo. 60th REUNION 2023 - Anyone interested?
There was discussion about the potential of a reunion next year.
Where: The Marysville Recreation Center is a potential site. Newly remodeled building offers both indoor and outdoor venues (weather compatible). Close parking, indoor restrooms, setup and cleanup services all for $75/hour. Is there any other venues suggested?
Time: The 75th birthday party was from noon to 7 pm. As a suggested time, it allowed classmates to come early or late, and lots of time to communicate. Are there any thoughts?
When: June 24th, 2023 - Traditionally the reunions were held a week for two before or after the Blue Water Fest/Mackinaw Boat Race. To avoid the practice of local hotels doubling and tripling during this time it was thought to best to avoid those weeks.
Catering suggestions include:

  • Smokey Jim's BBQ, 210 Huron Ave., Marysville - Food items can include: Smoked Brisket, Smoked Pulled Pork, Chicken Breast, Smoked Kielbasa, Baked beans, Mac n Cheese, Potato Salad or Pasta Salad, Coleslaw. Food items are priced on individual items and amounts. Set up and delivery prices varies. (Comment: mixed reviews, suggest others do a taste test.)
  • Chef Shells - A Birthday party like menu is available. Cost is based entirely on number of guests served. Cost in 2015 was $15.50/guest. The 2022 cost is $19.00/guest. It is anticipated that in 2023 there will be a 10% increase or $21.00/guest. A couple of advantages here are, we a familiar with the company, the menu, the service and no need for us to determine of how much of what foods to order. Prices include setup and delivery.
  • Palms Krystal Bar, 1535 Pine Grove, Port Huron - A variety of food items are available. Prices are either by number of guests for some food items or amounts ordered for other foods. Their catering menu does not note any setup or delivery costs.

All of this is in the planning stage. Your comments can be sent to: Betty Working-Rowley, Caryl Atfield-Butler. Rick Herring of myself (Len Patterson).

    Attendees at this gathering include: Dave Teeple; Joanne King-Westrick; Bob Hale; Gary and Cindy (Root) Minnie; Caryl Atfield-Butler; Marianne (Blank) and Fred Kemp; Don and Pat King; Linda (Lange) and Howard Ferns; Wanda Hunt-Pratt; Rick Heering; Sue and myself;

Wow! What a turn out. Of course one topic of discussion was the possibility of a 60th reunion. It was thought that a catered picnic like the 75th Birthday Party. Possible dates are June 17th or 24th, 2024. A possible location would be the Marysville Recreation Center (old Fire Hall, remodeled). The advantages of that are close parking, handicap accessibility, if the weather permits overhead garage doors can be opened providing extra space. Another advantage is the city recreation cleans up. NOTE: Recreation center is limited to 100 persons within the building itself. Comments and suggestion can be sent to Betty Working-Rowley, Caryl Atfield-Butler, and Rick Heering, and Len Patterson

This has to be one of our largest turnouts! And who forgets there camera? I have to apologize, BUT I had my Iphone. If I can figure out how to get them to my computer... Well I may have been born at night but not last night.

These gatherings are a pleasure for not only me, but for everyone that comes. Jim and Cynthia Vigrass come all the way from Ypsalanti to attend. To bad we can't get more locals to attend. They don't know what they are missing. All of the attending including spouses have a great time. All are looking forward to the summer BIRTHDAY Party this August. Even if you do not attend the coffee gatherings, please spread the word. Some classmates took this opportunity to pay the $21.00/person for the traditional BBQ luncheon of pulled pork and BBQ chicken. Consider adding the event to your calendar, please.

Classmates and spouses that attended this gathering included:
Caryl Atfield and husband Larry Butler, Rick Heering, Wanda Hunt and husband Ron Pratt, Dale Jurk, Joanne King-Westrick, "Bing" Kirby, Gary Minnie and wife Cindy, Tom Marlette, Carl Schoenberg, Jim Vigrass and wife Cynthia, Betty Working-Rowley, myself and wife Sue.

Fourteen classmates and spouses attended. We were graced by a birthday guest. Jim Vigrass and wife Cindy brought a birthday cake to celebrate Jim's birthday. Jim's birthday was Tuesday, the same day that Sue and I celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary. Happy birthday, Jim! And thank you for the cake, I hear it was delicious. Speaking of birthdays, we were wondering who might be the oldest in class. Can anyone beat 71 years old. One of the attending classmates thinks they are the oldest. Anyone older?

Regarding the gathering next summer for a 70th year old Birthday Party, I have secured the North Pavilion at the Fort Gratiot County Park, just off of Metcalf. I am still working on a caterer. Chef Shell indicated that she would be sending me a cost estimate and menu, but I have not received it as yet. She anticipated the cost to be $13.00 per person. The caterer that did the reunion Lakeside picnic is no longer in business. This is why I went to Chef Shell's. If anyone has suggestions or knows any one that might provide a good platter, please let me know. I will follow up. Again the date and place is set, the location is the Fort Gratiot County Park. Check out the link. I have provided on the home page several links that may easily overlooked. You can find a virtual tour of the park, the signed contract, a list of classmates that have given indication that they plan to attend, County Park Rules and Regulations, and more.

When and if a caterer is selected I will have better idea of the total costs involved. Thank you for your patience.

Classmates and spouses that attended this gathering included:

Another GREAT turn out. Even one classmate from Vancouver, Washington! A long way to come for a cup of coffee wouldn't you say. I guess they don't have Tim Horton's in Washington state.

Once again there was some discussion of a gathering next summer for a 70th year old Birthday Party. A possible date is August 15th, 2015. The location suggested was the Fort Gratiot County Park. Check out the link. A "pot luck" was not completely ruled out, thinking those that could would, and those from out of town might bring some commercially prepared foods. An alternative might be a catered affair but money collection, and unknown number of guests might be a issue securing a catering contract. Are there any millionaires on our class that might consider covering potential losses? Beastro Catering did the reunion gathering at the beach. Any thoughts?

Classmates and spouses that attended this gathering included:
Linda Badgerow and husband Russ Fretenborough, Caryl Atfield and husband Larry Butler, Pam Fockler and husband Hank Savalle, Bob Hale, Wanda Hunt and husband Ron Pratt, Tom Marlette, Louise Nadela and husband Eric Green, Garth Nicholson and wife Margaret Simmerson, Carl Shoenberg, Carol Shoenberg, and myself and wife Sue.

This gathering included 9 classmates and spouses. I think everyone had a good time and a group discussion was good. We talked about the best things that came out of the past reunion and what should be included in a gathering next summer for our 70th Birthday Party. A birthday party was certainly an anticipated item in our discussion. Sadly I have to say there have been as few as six or seven classmates that have given me any feedback. There were a couple of suggestions for sites... Light House Museum, Fort Gratiot County Park, Birtchville Park (has a pavilion), Lakeside Beach, Lakeport State Park, Marysville park (fire hall). Whichever site is picked should have easy access for those classmates that may have travel restrictions. A pot luck affair has been all butr ruled out as out of town classmates have no where to prepare or keep a dish to pass. I thought Beastro Catering did an excellanat job at Lakeside Beach at the class picnic. I am still seeking feedback.

Certainly not our best turnout. BUT I think the smaller group had a better group discussion. Classmates and spouses that attended this gathering included:
Linda Bagerow and husband Russ Frentenborough,
Wanda Hunt and husband Ron Pratt,
Dale Jurk and wife Judy Menerey (classmate),
    George "Bing" Kirby,
    Dorothy Newman-Smith,

This may have been our very best turn out yet. This gathering included at least 20 classmates and spouses. I think everyone had a good time. It was a welcomed meeting for everyone returning from their southern vacations. I really can't say any of them had deep dark tans. Maybe our bodies are better left for the privacy of our own homes.

Once again there was some discussion of a gathering next summer for a Birthday Party for our 70th birthday. Is there any interest in planning a low budget gathering? A couple of us a willing to plan a gathering if there is any interest. I would be very interested in hearing from the out of area classmates. They are the ones that have to bear the travel and hotel costs. What time of year would be the best time? Some feedback I have had is late July early August. I understand that long distant travel is not a trivial thing, but I would like to plan for the best attendance. Some suggestions are a picnic like party in a local park; Birtchville Park (has a pavilion), Lakeside, Lakeport State Park, Marysville park (fire hall). Does anyone have a large enough "farm" for a large gathering, bon-fire, parking? Would a catered deal like our reunion picnic, pot-luck, or bring your own basket be acceptable? We are open to suggestions? Let me hear from you.

This may have been out best turn out yet! Classmates and spouses that attended this gathering included:
Caryl Atfield and husband Larry Butler,
    Bob Dazer (Class of 1961),
Pam Fockler and husband Hank Savalle,
    Howard Ferns,
    Jan Harris-Bond,

    Sorry, no photos this time.
Dispite the low turn out, we were not lacking for things to talk about. Believe it or not we did not talk about the missing 777. I think the converation centered around our different medical insurance coverage, veteran's benefits, and silver sneakers health and exercise program offered from Blue Cross & Blue shield. With this benefit you can get FREE access to various gym facilities and the YMCA. Check it out.

Well the low turn out didn't bother us, but we did miss Dorothy's three berry muffins. Maybe the next meeting will be warm enough for the robins and snow birds to return. I hope to see you there. Don't forget you are all invited to the monthly breakfast meetings. Breakfast is the third Monday of each month, currently meeting at the American Grill at 08:30.

Guests included: Judy Menerey-Jurk and Dale "Bing" Kirby and myself and wife Sue.

Again a great time was had by all. I have to apologize for not sending out a pre-announcement note. It seems that the timing on my part was bad. I just returned from a week in the wilderness, sitting in a tree, thinking of God, family, and that elusive antlered quarry, the 30 pointer buck, 35 miles northeast of Escanaba, 7.5 miles back in the woods. That is my explanation for the lower than usual turnout. Yet is was still great to get together.
Carol Atfield-Butler has a good suggestion. Most of us will be turning to the golden years of 70! She thought it might be fun to have a low level, CHEAP, good time gathering. I thought that the picnic following the reunion was especially rewarding, inexpensive, good food, and maybe just a little chilly. Maybe a late July early August picnic might be the answer. Does anyone have a suggestion on where we might meet for such a gathering? Sue has a classmate that owns a tree farm with a club house. Or if someone has beach front property and a lot of parking space to host such a gig? Let me know what you think. I think it would be fun.
Well the low turn out didn't mean there weren't some new faces. Guests included: Marianne Blank-Kemp, Gary Hock, Wanda Hunt and Husband Ron Pratt, Joann King-Westrick, Dorothy Newman-Smith, Jim Vigrass and wife Cynthia Sari, Marilyn Wirsing-Kuehn, and myself and wife Sue. Any gathering is always GREAT! Vantage Point is still a good place to meet. It has a great view, great coffee, and donuts. With the reunion just past, there was lots of things to talk about. I think everyone has to agree that the reunion was great. A three day affair made it even greater. My personal opinion is that the boat/yacht club and picnic were significant contributors to having a good time. This coffee gathering was attended by 20 classmates and spouses. Some regulars didn't make it, still 20 is not a bad count. Barb Bailey-Gillespie, Carol Cumming-Griffin (spouse Lee), Bob Hale, Jan Harris-Bond (spouse Lyle), Gary Hock, Wanda Hunt-Pratt (spouse Ron), Dale Jurk, Joann King, Rita Marks (spouse of late KG), Gary Minnie (spouse Cindy), Dorothy Newman-Smith, Sharon Seibert-Whiting, Richard Woods, Shari Vass-Bukowski (spouse Walt), and myself. There were many new faces at this gathering. It was a great time attended by 18 classmates and spouses; Linda Badgerow-Fretenborough (spouse Russ), Sandra Birtch-Newell, Bob Hale, Rick Heering, Gary Hock, Wanda Hunt-Pratt (spouse Ron), Tom Jones, Don King (spouse Patricia), George "Bing" Kirby, Vicki Leathorn-Lawrence (spouse Ken) KG Marks (spouse Rita), Gary Minnie (spouse Cindy), Dorothy Newman-Smith, Sharon Norris-Miller (spouse Warren), Judy Payton-Brackenbury, Sharon Seiber-Whiting, Richard Woods, and myself (spouse Sue). Please bring to my attention anyone I missed.

Gary Minnie brought in a photo of Barry Hunwick's 1929 Studebaker. Barry is said to have bought it in high school because he thought it looked like a "Gangster Car". I have posted it on the photograph page. Bob Hale brought in his collection of senior photos. I am in the process of scanning them now. I wished that I could say I can put a name to everyone's photograph. They should be posted soon, maybe you can help me put names to the unknowns and correct ones I may have incorrectly identified. Maybe you will attend the next gathering? DO you have a suggestion of WHERE?

The new location saw many old friends not attend, maybe I should have sent out a reminder. We know who you are and where you live. The deserts were GREAT, just look at the many dishes of food on the table. So great that we seem to pass the "County Heath inspector's visit" without a comment. At least not to us directly. So many of us and so few of "him"!! I am sorry, I spent a lot of time doing things, I really didn't get much time to take many photos, though I have posted those that I took. I even failed to take attendance. Shame on me. I do recall meeting a couple of new faces, Roger Redigan, Vicki Leathorn-Lawrence, and Dick (sorry I forget your last name). Others that attended included Wanda Hunt-Pratt and husband Ron, John and Sharon Seibert-Whiting, Betty Working, Gary and wife Cindy Minnie, Jeff and Kathy Harding-Kellogg, Gary Hock, George "Bing" Kirby, Carl Shoenberg, Larry VanNess, Dorothy Newman-Smith, Sharon and husband Warren Norris-Miller, and Pam and husband Hank Fockler-Savalle.

Once again confectionery treats were available, thanks to Dorothy and Sue. Seventeen classmates and four spouses came to Vantage Point just to meet and greet. The attendees included Sharon Adams-Kaiser, Caryl Atfield-Butler and husband Larry, Carol Cumming-Griffin and husband Lee, Bob Hale, Rick Heering, Dale Jurk and wife Judy (Menerey), Joanne King-Westrick, Gary Minnie and wife Cindy, Dorothy Newman-Smith, Len Patterson and wife Sue, Carl Schoenberg, Sharon Seibert-Whiting and husband John, Ron Shevnock, Marilyn Wirsing-Kuehn, and Richard Woods. If you have never attended one of these gatherings, you should really consider coming to the next in April.

You know you learn a lot about what happened in school. Things you would not believe. I feel somewhat like a gossip, but I have a couple of interesting trivia questions for you.

Trivia 1: Which group of classmates got caught passing a note in an elementary class that resulted in a note in their transcript files that said they were never to be put in the same classroom together again? Even through high school.

Trivia 2: Which classmate bought an old Studebaker from Cawoods while in high school because he thought it looked like a gangster car? That car is currently owned by Pete Canjemi. And NO its not Pete.

Among many things that were talked about of coarse was Barry Hunwick's passing and his incredible, but shocking life. Most remembered him as a sharp dresser, and during the 10th and 11th grade attended classes via a modern invention like a speaker phone like device. I am told a candid picture of Barry can be found in the yearbook (page 121) holding two cans on his head during the food drive. Many items were brought to promote conversation by Rick Heering, Bob Hale, and Richard Woods. There were old Washington Jr. High newspapers, photographs and reunion booklets. I hope to post the photos and booklets later next week. I also brought a binder with many obits of those classmates that have passed. A surprising number, 117 confirmed. I hope I have peaked your interest. Maybe you will attend the next gathering?

There were lots of confectionery treats thanks to Dorothy, Pam and Wanda. Fourteen classmates came to Vantage Point just to have fun. The attendees included Carol Cumming and husband Lee, Pam Fockler, Rick Heering, Gary Hock, Wanda Hunt and husband Ron Pratt, Dale Jurk, Joanne King-Westrick, George "Bing" Kirby, Dorothy Newman-Smith, Len Patterson and wife Sue, Carl Schoenberg, Larry VanNess and John and Sharon Seibert-Whiting. Yes indeed spouses are welcome! Once again we recalled the past, old cars, looking through year books, military experiences, and things that brought surprise and awe. You really have to attend one of these meetings to share the past, present and future. If anyone wants to suggest a time and place, let me know. I will get the word out. There was a suggestion that we meet again after the holidays, possibly early February?

It has been suggested that we firm up a schedule for these meetings. The suggestion was to have a meeting every three months, on the third Thursdays of the month. Following that suggestion, that would mean meeting: February 21, April 18, July 18, October 24, and maybe one before the holidays. Of coarse this would not eliminate any special meetings when a classmate(s) might return to the area.
Please, I could use your feedback.

For those inclined to do so, there are some needing prayer. Without going in to details, Judy Menerey-Jurk, Vicki Leathorn-Lawrence, Gerald Saunders, and sister-in-law (name unknown) of Carol Atfield-Butler.

We had what I thought was a tremendous turnout. Fifteen classmates came to Vantage Point to meet Sharon Brooks-Twist. Hugs and kisses abounded. Classmates in attendance were Sharon Brooks-Twist, Jan Harris-Bond, Dorothy Newman-Smith, Wanda Hunt-Pratt, Dale and Judy Menerey-Jurk, Bob Hale, Rick Heering, George "Bing" Kirby, Joann Lytle-Worden, Dawn Lester-Dunsmore, Carl Schoenberg, John and Sharon Seibert-Whiting, Marilyn Wirsing-Kuehn, and myself. Other welcomed guests came too. Can you guess who might have raised hogs, sold sausage, raised hawks and labrador dogs? The same person married a Coast Guardsman and moved to Buffalo, NY. YUP, should you see or write Sharon Brooks-Twist you might ask her. The coffee, home made muffins from Dorothy's kitchen and conversation were welcomed and enjoyed by all. Rick brought a Golden Bear yearbook; All anyone could say was "Remember..., Whatever happen to ..., He or she married...." Look for another impromptu coffee clutch meeting. Maybe we can get more classmates to attend and enjoy each others company. Again if anyone wants suggest a time and place, let me know. I will get the word out as best I can.

Eleven classmates came to Vantage Point to meet Richard "Dick" Johnson. It was an amazing gathering of individuals for such a short notice. Those that attended were Richard "Dick" Johnson, Dale Jurk, Bob Hale, George "Bing" Kirby, Joann King, Larry and Caryl Atfield-Butler, Gary "Nick" and Margaret Simmerson-Nichoson, Sharon Seibert-Whiting, and myself. Of coarse the topic of the approaching reunion was talked about. Some expressions of concern were expressed about another reunion in at the McMorran, but I think I can say all felt that the importance of the 50th reunion was more important then where it was held. Fifty years is a long time, and for some of us, it will be a very important last gathering. Like other unformatted meetings, we shared life experiences, the whereabouts and continued communications with other classmates. The coffee and conversation were welcomed and enjoyed by all. Look for another impromptu coffee clutch meeting. Maybe we can get more classmates to attend and enjoy each others company. Again if anyone wants suggest a time and place, let me know. I will get the word out as best I can.

Four classmates came to Vantage point to meet with Cici Ruebig, one of three foreign exchange students in the class. After talks of our families, occupations, and interests, thoughts turned to the fast approaching 50th anniversary of the class of 1963. It's amazing how fast the time is passing. All thought that it is important to begin seeking feedback, begin planning, and making reservations for the various locations and services that will be needed. Please pass along your comments to anyone on the planning committee. Look for another impromptu coffee clutch meeting. Maybe we can get some prior committee members to attend. Again if anyone wants suggest a time and place, let me know. I will get the word out as best I can.

The attendance was pretty GOOD. You missed seeing Judi Payton-Brackenbury, Laura Marlette-Huebner, JoAnne King-Westrick, Carl Shoenberg, Rick Heering, Charlie Winters, Caryl Atfield-Butler and husband Larry, myself and wife Sue. Of coarse there was plenty of talk about high and junior high school and persons we knew but no longer in touch. On the bigger note, there was discussion about our next reunion. All of us are looking forward to a spectacular event. Along that subject I participated in the early planning stages of the recent Class of '61 50th reunion. John Chidister and his team of volunteers did a outstanding job. Both Judi and Rick attended the reunion. Both brought the classmate booklet. Judi also brought along her necklace and name tag, commemorative coffee cup, chocolate, and another document. I must admit that I failed to pay close attention to it but suspect it was an agenda for the reunion dinner. You can see a photo of the items by following the Album 12 link below. The Class of '61 choose the Edison Inn to host their event. We all agreed that it was good to have the event where classmates could stay, continue parties, freshen up when needed, plan daily activities, etc. It is thought that doing so might attract guest from further distances. An interesting note is that the Class of '61 had several volunteer events, that each classmate/spouse could choose to participate in. These activities were billed for separately, giving the attendees an option to participate or not, considering their budget and interest needs. I believe activities include a golf outing, luncheon at the golf club, town tours, high school tour, cruise on the Huron Lady, Party at the Port Huron Yacht Club to name a few. The Class of '61 found sponsors for their Classmate book that made a professional looking document. The also had benefactors that donated money for those strapped for cash to attend the reunion. The Coffee Clutch talked over location possibilities and it was pretty much agreed that the 50th had some significant and that another location would be a wise choice. Another thought for keeping the costs down was a cash bar.

If anyone is interested in another meeting, let me know I will pass the word. Maybe you would welcome a group of classmates into your home, office space, or another location. You name it, I will pass the word in email and web page. Incidentally, if you have the email address of other classmates, I would welcome them. I keep them strictly confidential and only share with confirmation from each student. If you have any comments, I could post them as well.

The attendance was small, but fun none the less. Caryl Atfield-Butler and husband Larry, Dorothy Newman-Smith, Marilyn Wirsing-Kuehn, Len Patterson and wife Sue met in the steamy room of Vantage point. Although the view was great of the icy river, the sun heated the area to near sauna conditions. The staff at Vantage Point was gracious in adjusting the air conditioner, but we found little comfort in our area. Our discussion covered more about how unknowingly we were related, either by blood or by marriage. We talked of past reunions, looked at the web page (taking advantage of their free wireless) and reunion photos. We need to seek out other photos, handbooks, Lighthouse newspapers, etc. to support the 50th calibration. If you have any materials that I can use, please contact me. I will copy and return all materials in original condition. For our next casual meeting we hope to get Sharon Siebert-Whiting and husband John to attend. We hope to see of you there.

Spouses Larry Butler, Ron Pratt, and Sue Patterson are to be commended as they accompanied their spouses at the Marysville Tim Horton's.

We had an enjoyable lunch while sharing pictures and stories. I will be posting the new photos soon on the web page.

One thing that Caryl suggested was to consider having the 50th reunion at the Sea Way Terminal. We all thought that a change would be nice. The Sea Way Terminal has some nice benefits, view, parking, etc. I have got to say this should be kept in mind when the real committee begins to gather. What are your thoughts? Drop us a line.

We haven't set a time or place for another meeting, but if anyone has a suggestion... let us know. Winter is coming and many locals will be heading south. Keep us in your thoughts while we sit in the snow.
